UK Covid-19 Inquiry

(Amended a couple of lines adding further job roles so you may understand the crisis from a travel and tourism sector, livelihoods affected and careers, worldwide; not just what happened to England. 12/03/26)
The inquiry is already one of the most expensive in UK history.
The total cost has risen to £204m so far, with the government spending another £111m on its own legal and staffing bills.

More than 227,000 people died with Covid as a cause on their death certificate between March 2020 and May 2023, when the World Health Organization declared an end to the health emergency.
Now what I hear is "I worked all my life and I have never claimed any benefits"...
There is real stigma and problems with those who now claim benefits / job seekers allowance whilst looking for jobs / seeking employment (jobs that do not really exist) AND if you are lucky enough to get a job it's usually where you are taken advantage of, temporary contract, 0 hours or up to 2 years then pushed out by longstanding staff, maternity cover, used for new ideas.
There is limited job security, and rare if you do 45 years in the same company with a private pension at the end of your time, not that I would personally want to get stuck somewhere for 45 years as the baby boomers did. The company may become stale or stuck but if you prefer stability and have a family its a lifestyle choice, back to the industrial days where they knock on your window to wake you up...

About your experience
This is my testimony and my truth about Covid pre and post as a
Flag Carrier, British Subject and individual.
My name is Donna Maria xxxxxx, born in Cambridge, England.
I am a witness to what has happened and what is still going on, a
humanitarian crisis, a huge worldwide shift, it will never be the same
again, travel will never be the same again and I will never quite be
the same again.
To be honest, I will just simplify now because it is too painful to go
back, must keep moving forward. However, as requested and on the
back of the radio advert I will speak out to support the inquiry.
To this day it is so much more than just Covid and a pandemic.
There is something much more powerful going on and it starts with
this Government. Power, manipulation and control, using the
pandemic outbreak to hurt, scare and dictate.
A handful of very harmful government leaders have caused untold
damage.
I have even heard whispers such as Genocide, Apartheid, 1984 big
brother, Pxl Pxx, Dxxxxx Cummings war??? HOW frightening and
shocking!
I represented my country, travel/aviation/technology/art/animals and
the natural world.
A mother to an unborn child called Daisy, granddaughter, daughter, sister, godmother, niece, cousin, auntie, a former fiancée, and friend I
have been terrorised, tortured, harassed and targeted by the
conservative party/ government, councils, representatives of: pre, during and post covid!
I have been harassed and targeted by neighbours, companies,
employees, friends and even family members.
My character has been defamed and attacked on several occasions
by workers (petsathome 2021 key workers - hate crime) and various people I have met within neighbourhoods and business.

I signpost you to universal credit which I was pushed onto. There
was no furlough scheme for the likes of me.
I believe the blanket approach and "levelling up" actually meant
pushing some of us backwards, certainly this is how I have felt but I
can only speak for myself.
I have witnessed this country going into shock and on the back of
this individuals have attacked verbally and got under the skin of
others - turning generations against each other. So many people in
shock (fight or flight). Businesses and people turning in on
themselves, breaking down and so many conspiracy stories going
round.
Tangling me up with the wrong people for years!
I have witnessed barbarism and hostile environments within various
sectors that I have worked in over the last few years during and post
Covid. Deliberate set ups, verbal attacks and abuse and bullying.
Either powerful individuals or business continue to spin things or
reset but this is affecting the whole travel sector and communities.
Artificial Intelligence is also at play here but the average
hardworking innocent human being would never understand. (whilst I was spare rooms for my different jobs I observed people eating the same meal and doing exactly the same thing every single day - like on repeat. In some of the work places employees being served up the most disgusting and inedible food).
I believe the Travel sector was shackled and sabotaged - this was a
deliberate attack! (Like striking oil - and look what happened there / Thatxxxx)
BUT the thing is you CANNOT execute the work - can you?
You may steal business and ideas and hurt but you can never do it! You will
never be able to rebuild without a few of us!
The travel sector was and still is, made up of so many different
talents and hardworking individuals and business worldwide from all sorts of
backgrounds, culture and life experience. These include academics, artists,
designers, aviation (which includes engineers, crew, pilots, maintenance, customer journey, HR etc ) technology, hospitality, (chef's, bar, restaurant, managers, house keeping, events, wedding coordinators, landscape gardeners etc) accountants, finance, operations, marketing, some with degrees, some with masters, some phd, some working their way up from school with apprenticeships and go on to have invaluable life experience and knowledge, visionary's, Entrepreneurs, Intrapreneurs, business leaders and transferable skills from other sectors, cruise, tour leaders, travel agents, tour guides etc etc etc....................
Practical individuals, prince 2 project managers and so
on! So many transferable skills but yet we were all put into one
category and talking from personal experience I was bullied, defamation of characters, tripped up on purpose and hurt,
WELL you got it
WRONG! 1 in 10 jobs and the backbone of the economy.
WHO is going to rebuild England if you hurt all of us?
This government did not know anything about this sector at all, you
did not consider the consequences of your actions at all did you?
Trying to erase the past and the truth or covering up will never work.
THE TRUTH comes out in the end!
Here is to a peaceful future for all!

Q:What you think could be learned?
The blanket approach was not appropriate for all sectors, some key
workers have been seriously hurt especially if they were pushed backwards whilst others got way beyond their
job spec and job title and experience - mistreating and abusing other
work colleges. Poor leadership. and very poor customer service.
Q:What could have been done different?
Dealing with the pm and
conservative party straight away when it was apparent they were
incompetent and causing so much harm! (dictatorship, nationalism, categories, being pushed onto the British system on purpose - not quite enough money for five weeks worth of food, make you homeless, become reliant, try to push onto doctors who may prescribe anti depressants, suppression - all on purpose. army base, reminders of a certain dictator from the second world war). (12.3.26 a few observations - a few little uprisings in Cambridge over the last couple of years, posters stuck to bus stops and torn, half ripped some days feels bad, services not up to scratch, men picking arguments in places such as the library, loose temper much easier, secrecy, certain people coming to the surface, little gangs, certain individuals in the job centres bullying and pushing individuals back that have far more experience. Also notice more adverts for the army and navy - buses, job fairs...sometimes feels like cuba. so many empty offices as you walk into the city centre...not many jobs).
The Nxxx Party held extremely nationalist, racist and antisemitic views,
had a racist world view. He believed that people could be separated into a hierarchy of different races, where some races were superior and others were inferior. xxxxx believed the xxxxxx race to be the superior race
Set out to weaken other races and take over the world.
wanted to rid of the disabled, homosexuals, Roma and Sinti, and other minorities that did not fit in to his idea of an Aryan race. The Nxxxx labelled these groups ‘ a-social Wanted to create a generation of young Aryans who were physically fit and totally obedient.
"guilty of treason"
Stability and structure within businesses, a moral compass, empathy,
soft skills and calm leadership was required...Driven perhaps less by
profit but by doing the right thing in these VERY testing times!
Compulsive liars, social media hate, inaccurate stories about others, written without permission and/or living in virtual reality or in a dream world
that are intent on hurting others and pushing back by trolling, destroying others characters or brands on purpose should be
regulated and held accountable. (Mental health crisis).

This was the largest listening exercise ever undertaken by a UK public Inquiry. Tens of thousands of people shared their experience of the pandemic and the impact it had on them and the people around them.
On 23 May 2025, Every Story Matters closed but these stories will continue to play a crucial role in the Inquiry’s investigations. They will become part of the public record, and help Baroness Heather Hallett, the Inquiry Chair, make recommendations for the future.
